Building Stronger Family Connections

Vaughn Heath, Ph.D, has spent over three decades helping families and couples create lasting, healthy relationships. Raised in Alberta, Canada, Vaughn completed his undergraduate degree in psychology before earning both a master’s and a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Brigham Young University.

Therapeutic Strengths

Vaughn’s approach blends deep insight with practical strategies. He draws from the work of Carl Jung—including shadow work and dream analysis—while applying object relations theory to understand family patterns. This unique mix helps families address conflict, communication struggles, trauma, and disconnection.

A Career Rooted in Family Healing

Vaughn began his career supporting trauma survivors and quickly expanded to working with families and couples. His leadership in pioneering the industry-recognized Second Nature Wilderness Programs changed how family therapy can support struggling teens and their parents. Over the years, he has guided families through challenges such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem issues, and relationship breakdowns.

What Clients Appreciate

Clients describe Vaughn as empathetic, insightful, and grounded. He values honest connection and practical change. As a parent of four, he understands firsthand the stress and rewards that come with marriage and parenting. Vaughn’s commitment is simple: help families and couples rebuild trust, improve communication, and foster resilience.

Personal Insight

Vaughn’s life experience shapes his work. Growing up as one of six children and managing ADHD as a child and teen, he knows the dynamics and struggles that families face. He enjoys sports, mindfulness, and meaningful connections—with clients and his own family.

Guiding Families Toward Connection and Healing

Steve Roth, LCSW, brings warmth, insight, and over a decade of experience to Arise Family Services. As Executive Director and lead family therapist, Steve helps families and couples break through challenges and build stronger, more fulfilling relationships.

A Unique Approach to Family Wellness

Growing up near New York City, Steve developed a drive to help others early on. Life taught him meaningful lessons through rock climbing—patience, trust, and facing fears head-on. He often shares these lessons with families, helping them find new ways to overcome obstacles and reconnect.

Steve earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from SUNY Plattsburgh. He quickly saw how practical strategies make a difference, creating a rehabilitation program for people recovering from injuries by blending therapy and outdoor activity.

Rich Experiences—Global Perspective

Steve’s journey took him around the world, from teaching in South Korea to earning his Master’s in Social Work at Tel-Aviv University. Working in multicultural settings shaped his belief that every family’s story is unique, and every relationship deserves care and understanding.

Family Therapy Expertise in Utah

In Utah, Steve has worked with families, parents, and couples across a variety of therapeutic settings. He specializes in helping people communicate better, repair trust, and find resilience in times of crisis or transition. Whether guiding parents, children, or couples, Steve meets each client where they are and builds from their strengths.

A Life Balanced by Nature

Steve recharges outdoors—running ultramarathons and rock climbing with his wife Kara and their two dogs. These passions inform his belief that healing can happen anywhere, especially in supportive and creative spaces.

Why Families Choose Steve

Steve’s clients appreciate his genuine care, practical tools, and ability to create a safe, comfortable environment. He loves seeing families rediscover hope and connection. Steve’s goal is simple: to support you and your loved ones as you learn, heal, and grow together.
